  • 35mm to 40mm wide
  • 45mm to 50mm high

The height of your face, from chin to crown, must be 32mm to 36mm.

Photo quality

Photos must be:

  • clear, focused image with no marks or 'red eye'
  • plain white or light grey background that contrasts with your face
  • consistent lighting (no shadows or reflections), with appropriate brightness and contrast to show natural skin tone

  • if you usually cover your head for religious reasons, you can wear the covering in your photo
  • jewellery can’t obscure any part of your face, especially the eyes, mouth and nose. There cannot be reflection from rings or studs.
